I got my MOT this morning. It was the second attempt, but only needed a brake hose un-twisting. Very happy. Going Driving.

The radiator fitted in position

The radiator has been fitted to the front of the car. There is a temporary mount on the top right until I get to move the existing top bracket, which is blocking the top hose inlet.

Reconditioned Steering Rack Back

The Steering Rack is back from preston power steering and it has been fitted to the car. The biggest bonus is that this one fits better than the original one. It completely clears the chassis.

Mounting the radiator

Fixing the radiator has not been straight forward. It is desirable to place the radiator as far in to the nose cone as possible. This enables most of the air to flow through it, and provides the most space at the back for connecting the hoses. When the radiator is placed 115 mm from the top the overflow touches the nose cone, preventing it from seating correctly.

This evening an attempt was made to mount the radiator at the the bottom, as close to the chassis as possible. Unfortunately it was a little too close and it touched the bottom on the nose cone. It needs to be mounted another centimeter higher at the bottom.

Steering Rack at PPS

Preston Power Steering collected the steering rack from parcel force on Friday. Today they called to let me know the price and asked me to put a check in the post, which I will do this evening. It cost £35 for the rack and £15 to post it back. That all comes to £58.75 with the VAT.

The Steering Rack has been sent to Preston Power Steering for remanufacture. Unfortunately it has not yet been received, despite two attempts by Parcelforce to deliver is last Wednesday and Thursday. They were called today and have said they will pick it up from Parcelforce on Thursday or Friday.

The new Polo radiator arrived very swiftly from Advanced Radiators. Next the mountings need to be put together to establish the best mounting location.
